Adhesive plate hangers can be used for hanging pictures, mirrors, posters, and other decorative items. There are also variations of these products that allow them to be used for holding up heavier items like shelves and cabinets.
If you’ve ever hung plates on the wall, you know how much of a pain it can be to remove them. The glue used to hold them in place is strong, and if you don’t know what you’re doing, it’ll ruin your plate and leave a mess on your wall. Luckily, there are ways to get rid of the adhesive without damaging your plate or wall.
There are several methods for removing sticky residue from plate hangers:
1. You can try to scrape it off with something sharp, like a razor blade. If you are lucky, this will work and all of the adhesive will come off easily. However, if not, then you may just be scratching up your frame or mirror and causing more damage than good. If this doesn’t work, try another method below.
2. Use nail polish remover on it – this works great! Just put some nail polish remover on a cotton swab or paper towel and gently rub at the sticky area until it’s gone (or at least mostly gone). Make sure not to get any nail polish remover on your frame or mirror though – if so then just wipe off immediately with a clean cloth and/or rinse with water as needed until all traces are gone from your item(s).
3. Using a chemical solvent such as Goof Off or something similar, apply it to the back of the plate hanger and allow it to soak in for a few minutes. The adhesive should begin to soften and you can then gently pry up the plate hanger with a flat head screwdriver.
4. Try using a degreaser like Simple Green or Formula 409 to remove any oil-based adhesive from your plate hangers. These products will usually not damage the metal surface of your vehicle, but test them on an area that is hidden by trim before applying them to your paint finish if you’re concerned about possible damage.
5. Use Rubbing Alcohol, Rubbing alcohol is a good cleaner for many items, including plate hangers. You’ll want to use rubbing alcohol that’s 91 percent or higher; 70 percent alcohol can leave a film on your hanger, which will prevent it from sticking as well.
6. Use WD-40, WD-40 is a multi-purpose solvent that you can use to remove adhesive from almost any surface without damaging the object itself or leaving behind any residue.
Are adhesive plate hangers reusable?
While there are many advantages to using adhesive plate hangers, they are not necessarily as reusable as other types of hangers. While it is possible to reuse them, they will not work as well.
Adhesive plate hangers have a special adhesive coating on the back that helps them stay in place on the wall or other surface. This adhesive works very well when new, but it can lose its stickiness with time and use. If you try to reuse an adhesive plate hanger that has lost its stickiness, it will likely fall off the wall or be damaged in some way.
If you want to use these types of hangers but don’t want to spend money on a new one every time you move or redecorate your kitchen or dining room, consider purchasing reusable adhesive hooks instead of adhesive plate hangers with hooks attached permanently (which tend to be more expensive). These types of hooks are available at home improvement stores and come in many different designs including different sizes and colors.
*When you buy an adhesive plate hanger, check out the packaging to see how long it lasts before losing its stickiness. Some can last for years while others only last a few months at best.
How do adhesive plate hangers work?
